{"id":1349,"date":"2019-01-01T21:38:18","date_gmt":"2019-01-02T05:38:18","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/cbcwla.org\/home\/en\/?p=1349"},"modified":"2020-04-25T16:45:03","modified_gmt":"2020-04-25T23:45:03","slug":"01-koinonia-the-biblical-foundation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cbcwla.org\/home\/en\/blog\/01-koinonia-the-biblical-foundation\/","title":{"rendered":"#01 Koinonia: The Biblical Foundation"},"content":{"rendered":"\r\n<p>The church theme for 2019 is\u00a0<em>Koinonia<\/em>.\u00a0 This is a Greek word that comes from the Bible.\u00a0 It means \u201ccommon being\u201d, a word that depicts \u201ca group of believers sharing life together in Christ\u201d.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p><em>Koinonia\u00a0<\/em>is a noun, appearing twenty times in the New Testament, and refers to \u201ca state of common being\u201d.\u00a0 Another noun\u00a0<em>Koinonos<\/em>\u00a0(common being-er) is used ten times, meaning \u201cpartner\u201d or \u201csharer\u201d.\u00a0 The verb\u00a0<em>Koinoneo\u00a0<\/em>(to make common) translates as \u201cshare\u201d or \u201cparticipate\/partake of\u201d, and appears 8 times.\u00a0\u00a0<em>Koinonikos<\/em>\u00a0is an adjective appearing once.\u00a0 These four words appear a total of 39 times in the New Testament.\u00a0 The following is a list of these 39 times, organized into four categories according to the Greek words.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\r\n<li><em>Koinonia<\/em>, noun, 20 times<\/li>\r\n<li><em>Koinonos<\/em>, noun, 10 times<\/li>\r\n<li><em>Koinoneo<\/em>, verb, 8 times<\/li>\r\n<li><em>Koinonikos<\/em>, adjective, 1 time<\/li>\r\n<\/ol>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Each underlined word represents the translation of that particular Greek word in the Bible verse.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>There are two translations provided, the New International Version, and the New American Standard Bible.\u00a0 In a few instances, the King James Version has also been included to further clarify the meaning.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong><em>Koinonia<\/em>: Life Together in Christ<\/strong><\/h3>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\r\n<li>\u00a0<\/li>\r\n<\/ol>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\r\n<li>Acts 2:42\u00a0\u00a0<strong><sup>\u00a0(NIV)\u00a0\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>They devoted themselves to the apostles\u2019 teaching\u00a0and to\u00a0fellowship, to the breaking of bread\u00a0and to prayer.\u00a0\u00a0<strong><sup>\u00a0(NASB)\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>They were\u00a0continually devoting themselves to the apostles\u2019 teaching and to\u00a0fellowship, to\u00a0the breaking of bread and to prayer.<\/li>\r\n<li>Rom 15:26\u00a0\u00a0<strong><sup>(NIV)\u00a0\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>For Macedonia\u00a0and Achaia\u00a0were pleased to make a\u00a0contribution\u00a0for the poor among the Lord\u2019s people in Jerusalem.\u00a0\u00a0<strong><sup>(NASB)\u00a0\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>For\u00a0Macedonia and\u00a0Achaia have been pleased to make a contribution for the poor among the\u00a0saints in Jerusalem.<\/li>\r\n<li>1Co 1:9\u00a0\u00a0<strong><sup>(NIV)\u00a0\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>God is faithful,\u00a0who has called you\u00a0into\u00a0fellowship\u00a0with his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.\u00a0\u00a0<strong><sup>\u00a0(NASB)\u00a0\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>God is faithful, through whom you were\u00a0called into\u00a0fellowship\u00a0with His Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.<\/li>\r\n<li>1Co 10:16\u00a0\u00a0<strong><sup>(NIV)\u00a0\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>Is not the cup of thanksgiving for which we give thanks a\u00a0participation\u00a0in the blood of Christ? And is not the bread that we break\u00a0a\u00a0participation\u00a0in the body of Christ?<strong><sup>\u00a0(NASB)\u00a0\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>Is not the\u00a0cup of blessing which we bless a\u00a0sharing\u00a0in the blood of Christ? Is not the\u00a0bread which we break a\u00a0sharing\u00a0in the body of Christ?<\/li>\r\n<li>2Co 6:14\u00a0\u00a0<strong><sup>(NIV)\u00a0\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>Do not be yoked together\u00a0with unbelievers.\u00a0For what do righteousness and wickedness have in common? Or what\u00a0fellowship\u00a0can light have with darkness?<strong><sup>\u00a0\u00a0 (NASB)\u00a0\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>Do not be\u00a0bound together with\u00a0unbelievers; for what\u00a0partnership have righteousness and lawlessness, or what\u00a0fellowship\u00a0has light with darkness?<\/li>\r\n<li>2Co 8:4\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<strong><sup>(NIV)\u00a0\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>they urgently pleaded with us for the privilege of\u00a0sharing\u00a0in this service to the Lord\u2019s people.<strong><sup>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0(NASB)\u00a0\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>begging us with much urging for the\u00a0favor\u00a0of\u00a0participation\u00a0in the\u00a0support of the\u00a0saints.<\/li>\r\n<li>2Co 9:13\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<strong><sup>(NIV)\u00a0\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>Because of the service\u00a0by which you have proved yourselves, others will praise God\u00a0for the obedience that accompanies your confession\u00a0of the gospel of Christ,\u00a0and for your generosity\u00a0in\u00a0sharing\u00a0with them and with everyone else.<strong><sup>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 (NASB)\u00a0\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>Because of the proof given by this\u00a0ministry, they will\u00a0glorify God for\u00a0your obedience to your\u00a0confession of the\u00a0gospel of Christ and for the liberality of your\u00a0contribution\u00a0to them and to all.<\/li>\r\n<li>2Co all.<\/li>\r\n<li>Gal 2:9\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<strong><sup>(NIV)\u00a0\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>James,\u00a0Cephasand John, those esteemed as pillars,\u00a0gave me and Barnabas\u00a0the right hand of\u00a0fellowship\u00a0when they recognized the grace given to me.\u00a0They agreed that we should go to the Gentiles,\u00a0and they to the circumcised.<strong><sup>(NASB)\u00a0\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>and recognizing\u00a0the grace that had been given to me,\u00a0James and\u00a0Cephas and John, who were\u00a0reputed to be\u00a0pillars, gave to me and\u00a0Barnabas the\u00a0right\u00a0hand of\u00a0fellowship, so that we\u00a0might\u00a0<em>go<\/em>\u00a0to the Gentiles and they to the circumcised.<\/li>\r\n<li>Eph 3:9\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<strong><sup>(NIV)\u00a0\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>and to make plain to everyone the\u00a0administration\u00a0of this mystery,\u00a0which for ages past was kept hidden in God, who created all things.<strong><sup>(NASB)\u00a0\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>and to\u00a0bring to light what is the\u00a0administration\u00a0of the\u00a0mystery which for ages has been\u00a0hidden in God\u00a0who created all things.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<strong><sup>(KJV)\u00a0\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>And to make all men see what is the\u00a0fellowship\u00a0of the mystery, which from the beginning of the world hath been hid in God, who created all things by Jesus Christ.<\/li>\r\n<li>1Php 1:5\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<strong><sup>(NIV)\u00a0\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>because of your\u00a0partnership\u00a0in the gospel from the first day\u00a0until now,<strong><sup>(NASB)\u00a0\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>in view of your\u00a0participation\u00a0in the\u00a0gospel\u00a0from the first day until love, if there is any\u00a0fellowship\u00a0of the Spirit, if any\u00a0affection and compassion,<\/li>\r\n<li>Php 3:10\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<strong><sup>(NIV)\u00a0\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>I want to know\u00a0Christ\u2014yes, to know the power of his resurrection and participation\u00a0in his sufferings,\u00a0becoming like him in his death,<strong><sup>(NASB)\u00a0\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>that I may\u00a0know Him and\u00a0the power of His resurrection and\u00a0the\u00a0fellowship\u00a0of His sufferings, being\u00a0conformed to His death;<\/li>\r\n<li>Phm 1:6\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<strong><sup>(NIV)\u00a0\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>I pray that your\u00a0partnership\u00a0with us in the faith may be effective in deepening your understanding of every good thing we share for the sake of Christ.<strong><sup>(NASB)\u00a0\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>and I pray\u00a0that the\u00a0fellowship\u00a0of your faith may become effective\u00a0through the\u00a0knowledge of every good thing which is in you\u00a0for Christ\u2019s sake.<\/li>\r\n<li>Heb 13:16\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<strong><sup>(NIV)\u00a0\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>And do not forget to do good and to\u00a0share\u00a0with others,\u00a0for with such sacrifices\u00a0God is pleased.<strong><sup>(NASB)\u00a0\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>And do not neglect doing good and\u00a0sharing, for\u00a0with such sacrifices God is pleased.<\/li>\r\n<li>1Jn 1:3\u00a0\u00a0<strong><sup>(NIV)\u00a0\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>We proclaim to you what we have seen and heard,\u00a0so that you also may have fellowship\u00a0with us. And our\u00a0fellowship\u00a0is with the Father and with his Son, Jesus Christ.<strong><sup>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0(NASB)\u00a0\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>what we have\u00a0seen and\u00a0heard we proclaim to you also, so that you too may have\u00a0fellowship\u00a0with us; and indeed our\u00a0fellowship\u00a0is with the Father, and with His Son Jesus Christ.<\/li>\r\n<li>1Jn 1:6\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<strong><sup>(NIV)\u00a0\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>If we claim to have\u00a0fellowship\u00a0with him and yet walk in the darkness,\u00a0we lie and do not live out the truth. <strong><sup>(NASB)\u00a0\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>If we say that we have\u00a0fellowship\u00a0with Him and\u00a0yet\u00a0walk in the darkness, we\u00a0lie and\u00a0do not practice the truth;<\/li>\r\n<li>1Jn 1:7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<strong><sup>(NIV)\u00a0\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>But if we walk in the light,\u00a0as he is in the light, we have\u00a0fellowship\u00a0with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from allsin.<strong><sup>(NASB)\u00a0\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>but if we\u00a0walk in the Light as\u00a0He Himself is in the Light, we have\u00a0fellowship\u00a0with one another, and\u00a0the blood of Jesus His Son cleanses us from all sin.<\/li>\r\n<\/ol>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong><em>Koinonos<\/em>:\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong>Common being-er, noun, 10 times<\/h3>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\r\n<li>Mat 23:30\u00a0 \u00a0<strong><sup>(NIV)\u00a0\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>And you say, \u2018If we had lived in the days of our ancestors, we would not have\u00a0taken part\u00a0with them in shedding the blood of the prophets.\u2019<strong><sup>(NASB)\u00a0\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>and say, \u2018If we had been\u00a0living\u00a0in the days of our fathers, we would not have been\u00a0partners\u00a0with them in\u00a0shedding\u00a0the blood of the prophets.\u2019<\/li>\r\n<li>Luk 5:10\u00a0 \u00a0<strong><sup>(NIV)\u00a0\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>and so were James and John, the sons of Zebedee, Simon\u2019s\u00a0partners.\u00a0 Then Jesus said to Simon,\u00a0\u201cDon\u2019t be afraid;\u00a0from now on you will fish for people.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0<strong><sup>(NASB)\u00a0\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>and so also\u00a0were\u00a0James and John, sons of Zebedee, who were\u00a0partners\u00a0with Simon. For if the Gentiles have\u00a0shared\u00a0in the Jews\u2019 spiritual blessings, they owe it to the Jews to share with them their material blessings.<strong><sup>(NASB)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>Yes, they were pleased\u00a0to do so, and they are indebted to them. For\u00a0if the Gentiles have\u00a0shared\u00a0in their spiritual things, they are indebted to minister to them also in material things.<\/li>\r\n<li>Gal 6:6 \u00a0\u00a0<strong><sup>(NIV)\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>Nevertheless, the one who receives instruction in the word should\u00a0share\u00a0all good things with their instructor.<strong><sup>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0(NASB)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>The one who is taught\u00a0the word is to\u00a0share\u00a0all good things with the one who teaches\u00a0him.<\/li>\r\n<li>Php 4:15 \u00a0\u00a0<strong><sup>(NIV)\u00a0\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>Moreover, as you Philippians know, in the early days\u00a0of your acquaintance with the gospel, when I set out from Macedonia,\u00a0not one church\u00a0shared\u00a0with me in the matter of giving and receiving, except you only;<strong><sup>(NASB)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>You yourselves also know, Philippians, that at the\u00a0first preaching of the gospel, after I left\u00a0Macedonia, no church\u00a0shared\u00a0with me in the matter of giving and receiving but you alone;<\/li>\r\n<li>1Ti 5:22\u00a0 \u00a0<strong><sup>(NIV)<\/sup><\/strong>\u00a0Do not be hasty in the laying on of hands,\u00a0and do not\u00a0share\u00a0in the sins of others.\u00a0Keep yourself pure.<strong><sup>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0(NASB)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>Do not lay hands upon anyone\u00a0too\u00a0hastily and\u00a0share\u00a0responsibility for\u00a0the sins of others;
