(<strong style=\"color: red\">Do not rush into reading the Bible without starting with prayers!<\/strong>) (e.g., you may start with a simple prayer like this: &#8220;Dear Lord, what will you be speaking to me today?)<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><strong style=\"color: blue\">Scripture Reading<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Get the following items ready in advance: your devotional notebook, paper, pen, and\/or electronic devotional articles so that you can easily write down the Bible verses, questions, and thoughts you have noticed! You are encouraged to open your Bible and vocally read out the scriptures (Try to practice this reading method daily or once a week)!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Scripture Reading: Luke Ch. 3 (ESV)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><strong style=\"color: blue\">Meditation<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Take a moment to quietly reflect on today&#8217;s Scriptures. Through such exercises, let God&#8217;s Word be gradually written into our hearts and be inscribed to our mind.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><strong style=\"color: blue\">Devotional<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Read the devotional articles prepared by CBCLWA (<strong style=\"color: red\">*Read the Bible first before reading any devotional materials.<\/strong>)<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">(<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">vv.<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">1-22)<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Luke, the author of the Gospel of Luke, wrote about the events recorded in the book in chronological order by examining the details.\u202fThe first three chapters were written in this format, in sequential order and with specificity that enables the readers to pay closer attention.\u202f\u202f<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:2,&quot;335559738&quot;:120,&quot;335559739&quot;:120,&quot;335559740&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The main theme of this scriptural passage is the ministry of John the Baptist who preached the baptism of repentance in the Jordan River for sins to be forgiven.\u202fMany people came to him to be baptized; we also read about the dialogue between John and these people (<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">vv.\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">3:7-14).<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:2,&quot;335559738&quot;:120,&quot;335559739&quot;:120,&quot;335559740&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">An important facet in the relationship between God and man is that of repentance and forgiveness of sins.\u202fNowadays, repentance and forgiveness of sin are rarely (if ever) brought up and rarer still, are the people who willingly listens. Yet, countless people are drawn to messages about God&#8217;s blessings, grace, healing and love which are popularly known as the Prosperity Gospel or Theology of Success and Abundance.<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">It is worth noting that God is not unwilling to bless and heal mankind. After all, God is love and full of<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">love.\u202fNevertheless, the problem of sin\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">can<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">not<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0be ignored. Sinful men must confess their sins and repent in order to be reconciled with the Holy God. The importance of this message\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">can<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">not<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0be understated.<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:2,&quot;335559738&quot;:120,&quot;335559739&quot;:120,&quot;335559740&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Now, let&#8217;s take a look at how John (who prepared the way for Jesus) responded<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">when the crowd\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">asked<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/span><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u201cWhat then shall we do?\u201d<\/span><\/b><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">(<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">see\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">verses 10, 12 and 14)<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:2,&quot;335559738&quot;:120,&quot;335559739&quot;:120,&quot;335559740&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li data-leveltext=\"\uf0b7\" data-font=\"Symbol\" data-listid=\"21\" data-aria-posinset=\"1\" data-aria-level=\"1\"><span data-contrast=\"auto\">To the general public, John answered,\u00a0<\/span><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">&#8220;Whoever has two tunics is to share with him who has none, and whoever has food is to do likewise.\u201d<\/span><\/b><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:2,&quot;335559738&quot;:120,&quot;335559739&quot;:120,&quot;335559740&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li data-leveltext=\"\uf0b7\" data-font=\"Symbol\" data-listid=\"21\" data-aria-posinset=\"2\" data-aria-level=\"1\"><span data-contrast=\"auto\">To the tax collectors,\u202f<\/span><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u201cCollect no more than you are authorized to do.\u201d<\/span><\/b><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:2,&quot;335559738&quot;:120,&quot;335559739&quot;:120,&quot;335559740&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li data-leveltext=\"\uf0b7\" data-font=\"Symbol\" data-listid=\"21\" data-aria-posinset=\"3\" data-aria-level=\"1\"><span data-contrast=\"auto\">To the soldiers, he replied,\u202f<\/span><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u201cDo not extort money from anyone by threats or by false\u00a0<\/span><\/b><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">accusation, and<\/span><\/b><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0be content with your\u202fwages.\u201d<\/span><\/b><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:2,&quot;335559738&quot;:120,&quot;335559739&quot;:120,&quot;335559740&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">By pointing them out one by one,\u202fJohn clearly articulated the thoughts and actions which would have kept those who listened from entering the kingdom, so that they could bear fruit of repentance and return to Christ.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:2,&quot;335559738&quot;:120,&quot;335559739&quot;:120,&quot;335559740&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">As we come before God each day, let us approach our Lord with the same question \u201cWhat then shall we do?\u201d \u202fIf God reveals to\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">your<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0wrongdoings or deviant behavior towards others in school, at work, at home or elsewhere, then you must repent!\u202fKnow that God is willing to forgive anyone who is willing to repent.<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:2,&quot;335559738&quot;:120,&quot;335559739&quot;:120,&quot;335559740&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">(<\/span><\/b><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">1 John 1:9<\/span><\/b><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">) \u201c<\/span><\/b><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.<\/span><\/b><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u201d<\/span><\/b><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:2,&quot;335559738&quot;:120,&quot;335559739&quot;:120,&quot;335559740&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">(<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">vv.<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">23-38)<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">From Luke 3:23, we know that Jesus began His preaching ministry when He was about 30 years of age.<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The main theme from this scriptural passage is the genealogy of Jesus.\u202fBiblical scholars believe that the account in the Gospel of Matthew follows the paternal lineage through His earthly father Joseph, while the account in Luke follows the maternal lineage from His mother, Mary.\u202fBy that inference, &#8220;Joseph, the son of Heli&#8221; from verse 23 implies that Heli is the father of Mary according to Biblical scholarship.\u202fIn other words, Heli is the father-in-law\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">of Joseph<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">.\u202fMatthew&#8217;s account brings to fore the ancestry of Jesus as a descendant of David and\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Abraham;<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0whereas Luke traces Jesus further in time to Adam, undergirding the relationship between Jesus and mankind as well as his identity as the Son of Man.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:2,&quot;335559738&quot;:120,&quot;335559739&quot;:120,&quot;335559740&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Jesus is the Savior of the world.\u202f By faith, you and I have become descendants of Abraham and children of God<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:2,&quot;335559738&quot;:120,&quot;335559739&quot;:120,&quot;335559740&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">(<\/span><\/b><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Romans 4:16<\/span><\/b><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">) \u201c<\/span><\/b><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">That is why it depends on faith, in order that the promise may rest on grace and be guaranteed to all his offspring\u2014not only to the adherent of the law but also to the one who shares the faith of Abraham, who is the father of us all<\/span><\/b><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u2026\u201d\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/b><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:2,&quot;335559738&quot;:120,&quot;335559739&quot;:120,&quot;335559740&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">When I was doing scientific research, I often heard of managers of laboratories who are specialists in a certain field, raising the\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">next-generation<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0of specialists.
