(<strong style=\"color: red\">Do not rush into reading the Bible without starting with prayers!<\/strong>) (e.g., you may start with a simple prayer like this: &#8220;Dear Lord, what will you be speaking to me today?)<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><strong style=\"color: blue\">Scripture Reading<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Get the following items ready in advance: your devotional notebook, paper, pen, and\/or electronic devotional articles so that you can easily write down the Bible verses, questions, and thoughts you have noticed! You are encouraged to open your Bible and vocally read out the scriptures (Try to practice this reading method daily or once a week)!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Scripture Reading: Luke Ch. 19 (ESV)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><strong style=\"color: blue\">Meditation<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Take a moment to quietly reflect on today&#8217;s Scriptures. Through such exercises, let God&#8217;s Word be gradually written into our hearts and be inscribed to our mind.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><strong style=\"color: blue\">Devotional<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Read the devotional articles prepared by CBCLWA (<strong style=\"color: red\">*Read the Bible first before reading any devotional materials.<\/strong>)<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">(vv. 1-10)<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0The Jews especially disliked the tax collectors because they collaborated with the Roman government to collect taxes from people. Many of these tax collectors were dishonest and perceived greed. One day in Jericho, there was a chief tax collector, Zacchaeus. He was seeking to see who Jesus was, but\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">because he was small in stature and there was a large crowd, Zacchaeus could not see Jesus.\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">So<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0he climbed up into\u202fa sycamore tree to see Jesus. When Jesus came, He looked up and said,\u202f<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u201c<\/span><b><span data-contrast=\"none\">Zacchaeus, hurry and come down, for\u202fI must stay at your house today.\u201d<\/span><\/b><b><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u202f<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"none\">As a result, the unpopular Zacchaeus hurried and came down and\u202freceived Jesus joyfully.<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u202f<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">Zacchaeus confessed his sin to the Lord,\u00a0<\/span><b><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u201cBehold, Lord, the half of my goods\u202fI give to the poor; and if I have\u202fdefrauded anyone of anything, I restore it\u202ffourfold.\u201d<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0Jesus stated clearly the reason why He came.\u00a0<\/span><b><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u201cFor\u202fthe Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.\u201d<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0Not only to seek and to save Zacchaeus,\u00a0Jesus\u00a0also seeks\u00a0each and every\u00a0one who is willing to confession their sins, to repent, and to accept Jesus as their personal savior.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:2,&quot;335559738&quot;:120,&quot;335559739&quot;:120,&quot;335559740&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">We must agree that Zacchaeus was courageous. He was willing to confess his\u00a0wrong doing\u00a0and his sins in front of everyone. He also publicly announced what was in his mind. In comparison to arbitrarily saying, \u201cI will not make that mistake again.\u201d This way of confession is more effective. The sinner is truly repent and will not sin again.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:2,&quot;335559738&quot;:120,&quot;335559739&quot;:120,&quot;335559740&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">Do you have any\u00a0wrong doing\u00a0you need to confess to the Lord or to other people? It is important to verbalize your\u00a0wrong doing, and carefully think about how to correct it. This is what we can learn from Zacchaeus.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:2,&quot;335559738&quot;:120,&quot;335559739&quot;:120,&quot;335559740&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">(<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">vv.\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">11-27)<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0In the parable of a nobleman and his ten servants, we realized that we must use the blessed resources from our God wisely \u2013 our talent and our ability. In fact, everything we own is a blessing from God. We must use it wisely in order to be a good and faithful servant.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:2,&quot;335559738&quot;:120,&quot;335559739&quot;:120,&quot;335559740&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">One of the servants, he clearly understood that his master was a severe\u00a0man, and\u00a0said that he was afraid of his master. However, he did not put in any efforts to carry out his master\u2019s assignment. He had no achievements. As a result, he lost even what he was originally given. Can you imagine Jesus being so straight and severe? Do you have the right fear for Jesus? How does this affect your service to glorify\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">God\u2019s K<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">ingdom?<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:2,&quot;335559738&quot;:120,&quot;335559739&quot;:120,&quot;335559740&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">In addition, what kind of servant are you?\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Usually,<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0people are more lenient toward themselves. When you hear Jesus\u2019 accusation or challenge, will your reaction be, \u201cis this about me? \u201cor\u00a0does this apply to a certain brother or a certain sister? Definitely it cannot be me!?\u201d<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:2,&quot;335559738&quot;:120,&quot;335559739&quot;:120,&quot;335559740&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">First ask yourself today, am I faithful? Am I kind? Do I serve the Lord with all my heart, my soul, my mind and my\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">strength<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">? I must respond wholeheartedly, am I willing to surrender all?<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:2,&quot;335559738&quot;:120,&quot;335559739&quot;:120,&quot;335559740&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">(vv. 28-48)\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">This last passage talked about Jesus riding the donkey into town. In the process, the crowd cheered and welcomed Jesus, they loudly praised Jesus. This led to the Pharisee\u2019s sarcasms against Jesus. Furthermore, we see that Jesus cried for Jerusalem. Obviously, the Lord knew that disaster would come upon this city. Approximately 70 A.D. Jerusalem was invaded by the Roman troops. She was destroyed. All that Jesus said became true.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:2,&quot;335559738&quot;:120,&quot;335559739&quot;:120,&quot;335559740&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">Brothers and sisters, let us examine ourselves once again. As we face the omnipotent Jesus, who also loves the world, shouldn\u2019t we make use of every opportunity to sing praises to glorify Him? If we have done so, praise God! If we have not done so, why not? We should not keep our lips tight. We should sing praises to Him joyfully and loudly! Jesus said,\u00a0<\/span><b><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u201clet me tell all of you, although they their lips are tight, these stones will cheer on.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"none\">Are we less than the stones?<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:2,&quot;335559738&quot;:120,&quot;335559739&quot;:120,&quot;335559740&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><strong style=\"color: blue\">Pray<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Give thanks to God for His enabling us to read the Scriptures and for our response for living out the Word of God today!
