(<strong style=\"color: red\">Do not rush into reading the Bible without starting with prayers!<\/strong>) (e.g., you may start with a simple prayer like this: &#8220;Dear Lord, what will you be speaking to me today?)<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><strong style=\"color: blue\">Scripture Reading<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Get the following items ready in advance: your devotional notebook, paper, pen, and\/or electronic devotional articles so that you can easily write down the Bible verses, questions, and thoughts you have noticed! You are encouraged to open your Bible and vocally read out the scriptures (Try to practice this reading method daily or once a week)!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Scripture Reading: Luke Ch. 23 (ESV)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><strong style=\"color: blue\">Meditation<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Take a moment to quietly reflect on today&#8217;s Scriptures. Through such exercises, let God&#8217;s Word be gradually written into our hearts and be inscribed to our mind.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><strong style=\"color: blue\">Devotional<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Read the devotional articles prepared by CBCLWA (<strong style=\"color: red\">*Read the Bible first before reading any devotional materials.<\/strong>)<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">(vv.1-25) Once the Jewish council was able to use Jesus\u2019 own words against Him,\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Jesus<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0faced a series of questioning by authorities. First, He was brought before Pilate, then to Herod (vv.8-12), only to faced Pilate again. While Jesus faced different interrogators, a crowd of people who eagerly wanted Jesus\u2019 death was always present. Have you noticed them? When Pilate concluded in his first meeting with Jesus,\u00a0<\/span><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u201cI find no guilt in this man,\u201d<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">this crowd urgently replied,<\/span><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0\u201cHe stirs up the people, teaching throughout all Judea, from Galilee even to this place.\u201d<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">Before Herod, Jesus remained silent, but verse 10 said,\u00a0<\/span><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u201c<\/span><\/b><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The chief priests and the scribes stood by, vehemently accusing him.<\/span><\/b><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u201d<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">Neither Pilate nor Herod could find in Jesus, any guilt deserving of death under Roman law. Pilate had planned to release Jesus, but the crowd shouted<\/span><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">, \u201cAway with this man, and release to us Barabbas,\u201d \u201cCrucify Him!\u201d<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">The crowd\u2019s loud cries prevailed, and Pilate ultimately decided to sentence Jesus to be crucified and release Barabbas instead.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:2,&quot;335559738&quot;:120,&quot;335559739&quot;:120,&quot;335559740&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">During His questioning by authorities, Jesus was found to be innocent (vv.14-15). Yet\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">H<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">e was crucified nonetheless. Who was responsible for Jesus\u2019 crucifixion? Was it Pilate, the Jewish council, and the crowd? Anyone else is responsible? In fact, Jesus was crucified for you and me.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:2,&quot;335559738&quot;:120,&quot;335559739&quot;:120,&quot;335559740&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b><span data-contrast=\"none\">1 Peter 2:24\u00a0<\/span><\/b><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u201c<\/span><\/b><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we\u202fmight die to sin and\u202flive to righteousness.\u202fBy his wounds you have been healed.<\/span><\/b><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u201d<\/span><\/b><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:2,&quot;335559738&quot;:120,&quot;335559739&quot;:120,&quot;335559740&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">Every time we read the Scripture about Jesus\u2019 road to suffering, we need to make a sincere effort to appreciate every step the Lord took, to empathize with the shame and pain He endured.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:2,&quot;335559738&quot;:120,&quot;335559739&quot;:120,&quot;335559740&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b><span data-contrast=\"none\">Romans 5:7-8<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0<\/span><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u201c<\/span><\/b><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">For one will scarcely die for a righteous person\u2014though perhaps for a good person one would dare even to die\u2014\u202fbut\u202fGod shows his love for us in that\u202fwhile we were still sinners, Christ died for us.<\/span><\/b><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u201d<\/span><\/b><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:2,&quot;335559738&quot;:120,&quot;335559739&quot;:120,&quot;335559740&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">The closer to the Lord\u2019s suffering we can feel, the more we can appreciate God\u2019s love for us. Thank Jesus our Savior who went to the cross for you and me!<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:2,&quot;335559738&quot;:120,&quot;335559739&quot;:120,&quot;335559740&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">(vv. 26-43) Jesus was walking toward suffering and death, but as long as He had breath, He did not stop caring for those around Him. He turned to the women who were mourning for Him to warn them of Jerusalem\u2019s pending destruction. He prayed for the soldiers who were crucifying him, asking the Father to forgive them,\u00a0<\/span><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u201cFather,\u202fforgive them,\u202ffor they know not what they do.<\/span><\/b><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u201d<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">To the criminal next to Him, who said,\u00a0<\/span><b><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u201c<\/span><\/b><b><span data-contrast=\"none\">Jesus, remember me\u202fwhen you come into your kingdom,\u201d<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0Jesus replied,\u00a0<\/span><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u201cTruly, I say to you, today you will be with me in\u202fparadise.\u201d<\/span><\/b><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:2,&quot;335559738&quot;:120,&quot;335559739&quot;:120,&quot;335559740&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">Each one of us is like the two who were crucified next to Jesus. When facing Jesus, we have to make a choice. Those who believe in the Lord receive the forgiveness of sins. And as for those who choose not to believe, they are condemned already. One choice is to \u201cdie to sin\u201d and receive eternal life.\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">(Romans 6:11\u00a0<\/span><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u201c<\/span><\/b><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">So you also must consider yourselves\u202fdead to sin and alive to God in\u00a0<\/span><\/b><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Christ Jesus<\/span><\/b><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">.\u201d<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">)\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">The other choice is to \u201cdie\u00a0<\/span><i><span data-contrast=\"none\">in<\/span><\/i><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0sin\u201d and be destroyed.\u00a0<\/span><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">(John 8:24\u00a0<\/span><\/b><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u201c<\/span><\/b><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">I told you that you\u202fwould die in your sins, for\u202funless you believe that\u202fI am he you will die in your sins.<\/span><\/b><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u201d<\/span><\/b><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">)<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">How you choose will decide where you go for eternity. Praise God for the hope and\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">certainty to everyone who believes in the Lord!<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:2,&quot;335559738&quot;:120,&quot;335559739&quot;:120,&quot;335559740&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">(vv. 44-56) The end of this chapter describes the death and burial of Jesus. At the moment of Jesus\u2019 death, many extraordinary things occurred: darkness covered the land, day turned to night, and earthquakes (Matthew 27:51). Also,\u00a0<\/span><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u201cthe curtain of the temple was torn in two, from top to bottom.\u201d<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">This signified that Man no longer had to be separated from God, for Jesus\u2019 sacrifice became the new and living way of salvation.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:2,&quot;335559738&quot;:120,&quot;335559739&quot;:120,&quot;335559740&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b><span data-contrast=\"none\">Hebrews 10:19-20<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0<\/span><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u201c<\/span><\/b><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Therefore, brothers, since we have confidence to enter\u202fthe holy places by the blood of Jesus,\u202fby\u202fthe new and living way that he opened for us through\u202fthe curtain, that is, through his flesh.<\/span><\/b><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u201d<\/span><\/b><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:2,&quot;335559738&quot;:120,&quot;335559739&quot;:120,&quot;335559740&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">Let us offer up thanksgiving to God for our high priest Jesus, who brought us out of death and into life.
