Pastor Wang always said, “If your opinion is different from the Bible, fix yourself, not the Bible.” Because of ever-increasing sin in the world, many young people are raised with sinful ideals or unbiblical beliefs. Reading the Bible, they will inevitably come across things that contradict what they think is right. When this happens to me, I am inclined to think, “Why does the Bible say this?” Bible Reading Class has taught me to question my own beliefs and adjust them to align with the Bible’s beliefs. Proverbs chapter 11 verse 2 says, “When pride comes, then comes disgrace, but with humility comes wisdom.” I figured out that if you are humble when you read God’s Word, you will understand what he is trying to tell you.

BRC has also equipped me to better explain God’s Word to others. When Pastor Wang explained the Scriptures in detail and to the point, I began striving to do the same when questioned by friends about the Word or answering questions during Bible study. Teaching the Bible to others is very important because it helps others grow closer to Jesus Christ. Pastor Wang’s class has given me an extensive knowledge of the Bible.

Bible Reading Class has cast aside many preconceived notions that were preventing me from having a stronger faith. Reading the Bible is also sculpting my life to grow closer to Christ. I used to often swear constantly by using phrases like “I swear” to convey honesty. My mom told me not to swear, but I didn’t listen. That day, I read James chapter five where it is written, “Above all, my brothers and sisters, do not swear—not by heaven or by earth or by anything else. All you need to say is a simple “Yes” or “No.” Otherwise, you will be condemned.” Now, I try to be direct in my speech. Through His Word, God is teaching and rebuking me every day and pointing me in the right direction.

In the beginning, my parents invited me to join and I felt obligated to participate, but it became a delightful habit. In the end, this class has helped me to finish the Bible from beginning to end, grasp confusing parts, humble myself, and learn what Jesus wants me to do in order to be a more compassionate disciple and servant.

Jordan Lin Bible Reading Class has helped me develop a humble approach to God’s Word.
